Bathtubs take over Berlin Main Street

BERLIN — For the second consecutive year, the combined team
of Ayers Creek Adventures and Baked Desserts Café has out-run its competition
during the Berlin Bathtub Races.

Pushed by Blake Taylor and steered by Amy Bennett, the kayak
racer beat Collin Maycomber and Stephen Barrett of Barrett Chevrolet in the
final race of the double-elimination competition last Friday.

Ayers Creek Adventures and Baked Desserts Café were the top
seed in the final race, with Barrett Chevrolet earning its spot after beating
the third-place team of Mark Huey and Lisa Capitelli, representing Ocean City
Today and Bayside Gazette.

Thirteen local businesses participated in the races, which
drew a crowd of more than 1,000.

During each heat, two businesses raced against each other
along a 250-foot stretch of North Main Street.

Ayers Creek Adventures and Baked Desserts Café won a trophy
donated by Coastal Hospice & Palliative Care, a free banner ad on the Web
site of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce — which organized the event — and
recognition in all of the chamber’s e-mail blasts.
