OCEAN PINES — Ocean Pines is about to look a little more festive, as members of the Garden Club of Ocean Pines are looking for volunteers to help decorate the community with holiday-themed wreaths and swags in an annual event called Decorate the Pines.
On Tuesday, Nov. 27, volunteers are asked to come to the gym inside the Ocean Pines Community Center next to White Horse Park to help make the decorations and hang them throughout the entire development.
"We have a list of what all communities want," said Gail Phillipe, publicist of the Garden Club of Ocean Pines.
Members of the garden club have walked around several areas of Ocean Pines and asked residents if, and where, they would like these decorations hung.
Starting at 8:30 a.m., a large tarp will be placed on the gym’s floor, giving the expected 50 volunteer crafters plenty of space to make combination artificial and evergreen wreaths and swags with red bows.
The swags will be placed on all 75 stop signs in Ocean Pines, with the help of the Ocean Pines Public Works department.
"Everyone at public works is awesome," said Anita Roberts, co-vice president of the garden club and head of Decorate the Pines. "They’re a big help for us."
About 60 wreaths and other decorations will also be made and hung throughout the community, including both the North and South Gate entrances, as well as all Ocean Pines Association signs placed in the median.
Volunteers are not only asked to make these decorations, but also to go throughout Ocean Pines and put everything up on the signs.
Around 11:30 a.m., most of the work will be complete and everyone who helped out is invited to join in on a chili lunch made by members of the garden club.
