BERLIN–The deadline for the Stephen Decatur Park Mural Contest is Monday, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m. Area students currently in grades 9-12 are invited to submit original artwork for the contest being run by the Berlin Parks Commission to replace the existing mural located behind the tennis courts.
Once entries have been narrowed down, a group of volunteers, working with a professional muralist, will select winning images. All submissions will be on display during the March 14 Second Friday Art Stroll in Berlin.
Once the mural design is complete, volunteers, including students, will be enlisted to paint the mural, hopefully in spring 2014.
For official rules and entry forms, contact Mary Bohlen at 410-641-4314 or mbohlen@berlinmd.gov or visit the town’s Web site at www.berlinmd.gov/parks.
The Berlin Parks Commission is also seeking sponsors for the contest. In addition to monetary sponsorship to help offer prizes to the winning students, donations of supplies, such as paint, brushes, tarp and scaffolding will also be needed.
Anyone wishing to sponsor this project can do so by contacting Bohlen or visit the town’s Web site.
