(July 16, 2015) In front of a packed house at Town Hall on Monday night, the Town of Berlin staff thanked the mayor and council for its leadership.
Managing Director Jeff Fleetwood, who presented the council with a cake, said the employees were there to commend their employers.
“All these folks are here obviously to see you all,” he said. “We did this last year and I can tell you, just with my interaction with the employees that are here and the employees that aren’t here, I thought the momentum … has gotten stronger. The appreciation that they have for you all as supervisors or bosses or whatever we want to call you has grown and grown and grown.”
Fleetwood said Berlin was “a wonderful place to work … and it’s because of you guys.”
Electric Utilities Director Tim Lawrence presented the mayor and council with a card on behalf of his department.
“When I came here five years ago, I came here for a reason,” he said. “The town of Berlin reminded me of where I used to be 30 years ago, just the way it had the hometown feel to it. I’ll be honest, it just feels like a big family.”
Berlin Mayor Gee Williams, in return, thanked the staff.
“Your attitude of putting public service first and taking pride in your community is being noticed by a lot of people,” he said. “Everybody seems to get it.
“Many of you see our citizens sometimes at their worst because they’re either upset, panicked, a little scared or not sure what to do, and then you come through and fix the problem [and] you always show them courtesy and respect. That, to me, says everything. It’s our privilege to serve you,” Williams said.
