The Worcester County Board of Education authorized a $2.5 million requisition to continue construction at the replacement Showell Elementary School site on Showell School Road off Route 589 in Berlin during a meeting on Dec. 17. The project began on Sept. 29, 2018 and was expected to be complete by September 2020. The original Showell Elementary building was constructed in 1976, then additions were incorporated in 1990 for a total of 52,610 square feet. The new facility has a total 102,409 square feet.
