SNOW HILL – Youth Indoor Soccer and Basketball Leagues return to the Worcester County Recreation Center (WCRC) in Snow Hill January.
The soccer league is open to children ages 3 through grade 8, and the basketball league is open to children in kindergarten through grade 8.
For all youth recreational leagues, emphasis is placed on skill development, participation, sportsmanship, and most of all, kids having fun.
“We want our participants to learn sports skills but it is equally important that they develop emotionally, socially, and physically,” said Worcester County Recreation and Parks program manager Ken Tustin.
In contrast to other sports leagues, the recreational soccer and basketball leagues are designed for pure enjoyment and skill development. Scores and standings are not recorded and emphasis is placed on participation and positive sportsmanship.
The Indoor Soccer League, which kicks-off the week of Monday, Jan. 10, will be divided into four, co-ed age divisions: Age 3-4, Grades K-1, Grades 2-4, Grades 5-8. The younger divisions, age 3-4 and grades K-1, play Saturday mornings.
Those in grades 2-4 play on Thursday evenings, and those in grades 5-8 play on Monday evenings. Most games will be played at the WCRC, with practice dates, times, and locations to be announced.
The Winter Youth Basketball League, which tips-off Saturday, Jan. 15, will consist of three co-ed divisions: grades K-1, grades 2-4, and grades 5-8. Games will be played each Saturday afternoon at the WCRC, with practice dates, times, and locations to be announced.
The cost for each program is $20 per player ($15 for each additional child), and financial aid is available for those who have demonstrated need. Proof of eligibility is required.
