Norma K. Davies
West Ocean City
Norma Kenille Davies, 88, of West Ocean City, passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2026.
Kenille, as she was known, was born in the Bronx, New York on October 16, 1937. She was the daughter of Norma and Ken Davies. They lived briefly in Pennsylvania, where her parents were from, before moving to her beloved Dundalk, Maryland, where she grew up. She graduated from Dundalk High School in 1955 and continued to get together with some former classmates for lunch once a month. They called themselves “Club 55.”
As a young woman, she excelled as a softball player, receiving accolades and awards for her play. She met Sam Holloway of Ocean City and they married in 1960, starting their family.Kenille was an avid bowler, bowling on the Wednesday Night Ladies league at Ocean Lanes for over 55 years. She was one of the oldest and longest tenured members of the league, stopping just a few years ago. Her love of animals led her along with a strong group of supporters to organize the Worcester County/Ocean City Humane Society in 1976. She dedicated her life to advocating for lost, homeless, neglected, and abused animals in our communities.
She served as President of the Humane Society and Director of shelter operations for nearly 40 years. She was so proud of the fact that she established the shelter as a “no kill” facility. She had a strict policy regarding that, and it was one of the first of its kind in the area.
After having to give up that position, she and a group of supporters formed Kenille’s Kupboard, Pet Pantry and Rescue, located at Precious Paws Animal Hospital in West Ocean City. It was her vision to provide food, medicine, pet supplies, and fund veterinary care for pet owners who found it hard to do. This allows them to keep their beloved pets at home and not have to surrender them to shelters or abandon them. Kenille’s Kupboard will continue to operate, continuing her mission.
Kenille is survived by her children – John Holloway (Kim), Alison Adkins (Hal), and Amy Holloway; her grandchildren – Brooks Holloway, Brennan Holloway (Madi), Tyler Adkins (Erin), Tanner Adkins (Liz), Bryton Adkins (Bekah), Hannah Brittingham (Billy), Ryan Gallagher, and Jake Gallagher; her great grandchildren – Charlotte Adkins and J.W. Brittingham; her sister-in law – Marie Davies; her nephews – Scott Davies and Charles Davies; and her faithful cat – Jimmy. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Rusty Davies, and her granddaughters Hayley and Kelsey Adkins.
Cremation followed her passing. A visitation will be held at The Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin on Monday July 13, 2026 from 4 to 6 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Kenille’s Kupboard, Pet Pantry and Rescue, P.O. Box 598 Ocean City, Maryland 21843. Arrangements are in the care of The Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
