Berlin screening series to try again after cancelations

(Aug. 24, 2017) Three Outdoor Movie Nights screenings that were rained out now have official makeup dates that will extend the series into October. The program was originally scheduled to run from June through August.
Under the revised schedule, the 1978 musical comedy “Grease,” staring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, will show on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Stephen Decatur Park.
Cult classic and coming-of-age baseball flick, “The Sandlot,” moves to Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in Dr. William Henry Park.
Oscar-winning time travel romp “Back to the Future,” staring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, will screen on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in Stephen Decatur Park.
This Saturday, “Runaway Bride,” staring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, will play on Jefferson Street in downtown Berlin, starting at 8:45 p.m.
Outdoor Movie Nights are co-sponsored by the Berlin Parks Commission and the Berlin Arts and Entertainment Committee. Berlin Administrative Services Director Mary Bohlen helps to organize the series.
“I just think that it’s an enjoyable, free event for folks,” Bohlen said. “This year it’s been such a washout, literally, but we always get a lot of enthusiasm when we’re picking the movies and last year we didn’t have any hitches [with weather] and they all got a really good turnout.
“It’s nice to have a family-oriented activity you can do on a Saturday evening, that doesn’t cost you anything,” she added.
“Runaway Bride” and “Tuck Everlasting,” both of which filmed in Berlin, are regulars of the series and are traditionally well attended. Other movies are chosen by a Facebook poll.
“It’s always going to be a favorite event, for people to see a movie that was actually filmed here,” Bohlen said.
All Outdoor Movie Nights screenings are free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and snacks. No glass bottles are permitted and an adult must accompany all children.
