OCEAN CITY — Walter Buckner Mitchell of Ocean City died Sept. 25, 2011 at the Berlin Nursing Home.
Born in Baltimore, on Dec. 20, 1932, Mitchell graduated from St. Paul’s School and Johns Hopkins University. He was an outstanding athlete, named to the Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a 3-time All American Lacrosse player and winner of the William C. Schmeisser Award as the “Outstanding College Defense Player in the Country” in 1958. He was very honored to twice be elected a Co-Captain of the Johns Hopkins Lacrosse Team.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Clogg Mitchell; a daughter, Kimberleigh and her husband Russell Paulin of New Rochelle, N.Y.; a son, Walter (Mitch) and his wife Jenifer Mitchell of Frankford, Del. and Naples, Fla.; and a brother, George and his wife Judy Mitchell of Ocean Pines.
Services and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Worcester County Humane Society, PO Box 48, Berlin, MD 21811. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
