(Nov. 30, 2017) The Worcester County Public Works Recycling Division will host Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Showell Elementary School on Route 589 (Racetrack Road).
Household hazardous waste and computers/laptops may be dropped off, but no other electronics will be accepted.
Household hazardous waste includes pesticides, pool chemicals, gas and other fuels, oil-base paints, thinners and everyday hazardous wastes accumulating in and around the home for safe disposal. Computers and laptops will be collected and later recycled.
Collecting household hazardous waste for safe disposal saves valuable landfill space and helps protect the environment, as many of these items do not degrade and contain poisonous materials that could seep out of the landfill and contaminate surrounding soil and groundwater.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is open at no charge to Worcester County residents only. This event is hosted in conjunction with Maryland Environmental Services and the Maryland Department of the Environment.
A representative from Maryland Department of the Environment will be on-site checking vehicle registration. Clean Ventures of Baltimore will be responsible for the safe disposal of all hazardous waste collected.
