‘Victorian Christmas’ begins with tree lighting, Arts Night

BERLIN—Black Friday Berlin-style will begin with the lighting of the town’s 17-foot spruce Christmas tree standing decorated in the courtyard of the Atlantic Hotel at the downtown sector’s  Holiday Arts Night. The blinking and twinkling will start at 5:30 p.m. and last until 7:30 pm.
Berlin’s art-themed Victorian Christmas will continue with original artwork and gifts throughout the town, along with live entertainment at several venues:
•A Little Bit Sheepish: The seascapes of Randy Hofman will be on exhibit.
•A Thread of Elegance: The store will feature the wearable art of Dana Queen’s extraordinary “MIA” ties.
•Baked Dessert Café & Gallery:  Starting at 4 p.m. Santa Claus will be in the House. So will singer Sophia Tomaselli and holiday arranger by Angie Gillis of Encore Events.
•Bungalow Love: The shop will feature hand stamped jewelry, silverware and key chains by Heather Layton of A Mermaids Purse.
•Bayside Gazette: Jewelry designer Dee Dobson will feature her pieces and Ocean City Today’s Managing Editor Lisa Capitelli will have her photographs on display as will Graphic Artist Kelly Brown. Photographer Dick Arnold has donated pieces to the Friends of Assateague Island Alliance Group. Sales of his work will be donated to the group.
•The Church Mouse Thrift Shop: The shop will donate all Art Night proceeds to the Believe in Tomorrow House by the Sea, which provides a beach respite for families facing a child’s medical crisis. The shop will also host their first artist, photographer Nick Tribuno.
•Design Resources:  The business has commissioned the annual Berlin Christmas ornament, which this year depicts the historic Atlantic Hotel. The ornament will be on sale at various merchants throughout town and proceeds will benefit expenses for Main Street’s Victorian Christmas.
•Harmony Wellness: Owner Laura Stearman will host artist Georgene Pollicino and her grandson Jake, of Ocean-Dog. They do a mix of paintings from different media and photography.
•JJ Fish Studio & Fine Crafts Gallery: The gallery will host a meet and greet event with fine jewelry artist Cindy Calahan of Silver Spring, a precious metal jeweler, who specializes in large stone settings.
•Jeffrey Auxer: Stop by to meet and view Auxer, who will be working in his glass blowing studio.
•Berlin Coffee House: The café will exhibit the work of landscape oil artist Geo McElroy from Arts Night throughout December.
•The Globe: From Holiday Arts Night through Jan. 5, artist Sharon O’Brien Huey will be featured in the upstairs gallery. See her work at www.facebook.com/EverydayMagicArtworks.
•Refresh Media:  The business will exhibit the work of a student artist from Berlin Intermediate School.
•Saltwater Media: The business will host a book signing with Andrew Heller, author of the children’s adventure novel “Samuel Smythe and the Mystery of the Missing Papers.”
•Sea La Vie: The shop will host an exhibit by noted local artist Jim Adcock.
•Taylor House Museum: The museum will host candlelight tours of the lower floor of the mansion on Arts Night Friday and every Friday in December up until Christmas, from 5-7:30 p.m.
•Victorian Charm:  Musicians Earl Beardsley and Matt Kramer will provide entertainment. Featured artists will include wildfowl carver Bennett Scott and glass artist Jim Blankenship.
•Worcester County Arts Council: From 6-9 p.m. there will be a reception, featuring the arts and crafts of local co-op artists. A portion of the sales will benefit programs such as the art scholarship, summer arts camp, and community arts development grants. The “Baskets of Art” from the Council’s fundraiser raffle will also be awarded.
