(July 13, 2017) H.T. Harrison & Sons Inc. took home the trophy at the 2017 Berlin Bathtub Races Friday night by besting Costa Ventosa Winery and Brewery by roughly the length of a rubber ducky during the final race.
“It feels great! We’re going to Disney World,” Racer Travis Harrison, 22, said afterward.
Harrison pushed the winning bathtub while his girlfriend, Brooke Chambers, drove.
It was an especially sweet victory for his mom, Capri Harrison, who said she asked her kids to participate in the races as a birthday present.
She and her husband bought a house in Berlin, last October.
“We heard about all the wonderful events that Berlin offers,” she said. “We just so enjoy being here. We come in on the weekends. We’re hoping to retire here within a year. We’re very excited. This is such a wonderful town and wonderful event and I’m thoroughly enjoying being a part of it.”
Capri said she thought they stood a chance after practicing at home.
“They boys said, ‘I think you have a winner here,” she said. “Today’s been a great birthday!”
The Berlin Chamber of Commerce sponsors the annual event, which has run for more than two decades.
“I think it was absolutely amazing,” Chamber Executive Director Larnet St. Amant said. “And I’m glad some new blood won.”
