BERLIN– The town is throwing “an elegant wedding block party” on Friday for Eastern Shore brides to be.
The 2014 “Say ‘I Do’” in Berlin expo features more than two dozen vendors at the Atlantic Hotel and Courtyard from 5-8 p.m. Billed as one-stop shopping for brides, the event will feature photographers, florists, wedding cakes, venues, jewelers, invitations, services, gifts, entertainment, wedding attire and beauty vendors.
Kathy Macaboy-Walsh, organizer of “Say ‘I Do’” and owner of the bridal boutique Bustle, spent six months planning the event with a committee of local business owners. This year the committee decided to branch away from traditional bridal showcases and throw a block party.
“It’s going to be very exciting,” Macaboy-Walsh said. “We wanted a different deal for this show so it’s going to be ‘Say ‘I Do with a Cocktail or Two.’ We’ll be at the beautiful Atlantic Hotel and all of the vendors will be under one roof. We’ll have it tented out front and in the sides, so it should be a good feel. We wanted something different – not the same run-of-the-mill wedding show.”
Twenty-five vendors are slated to offer showcases and demonstrations and to hand out samples during the event. In addition, guests will have the opportunity to book several venues in the Berlin area.
“We love the idea of people getting married here,” Macaboy-Walsh said. “We have so many wonderful venues in this area. We love the fact that we are bringing people to our town, and it’s good for the whole town.”
Macaboy-Walsh said the committee has done heavy advertising this year, with most of the vendors adding an aggressive social media push.
“We’re hoping for a big turnout,” she said. “I’d love for people to come here that have never been to our quaint little historic town and tell all their friends about it, and just realize that there are so many talented wedding vendors in this area. It really is a one-stop shop.”
