An arrest has been made in relation to a fire last month in Ocean Pines that investigators believe was intentionally set.

According to a news release from the Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office, Felix C. Rounds Jr., the occupant of the residence on fire on March 29 in the 700 block of Ocean Parkway, has been arrested and faces charges of first-degree arson and reckless endangerment. As of late last week, he was still detained without bond.

Firefighters with the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department were called out to the fire around 5:40 p.m., March 29. When the responders arrived, they saw smoke emanating from the single-story home and it was reported that a male resident, later identified as Rounds, was still inside.

Firefighters entered the residence and discovered a small fire in a bedroom, which they promptly extinguished. The release said the occupant was able to leave the home without sustaining serious injuries and damage was confined only to the bedroom.

County fire deputies were called to investigate the incident, and after analyzing the scene, collecting evidence, and conducting interviews, they determined the fire was deliberately set, prompting deputies to collaborate with the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office to pursue criminal charges.

The Ocean Pines’ department was assisted from neighboring volunteer fire companies, including Showell, Berlin, Ocean City, Bishopville, Selbyville and Frankford.
