Berlin barrack expands its ‘shop with a cop’ program

(Dec. 11, 2014) The Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack in partnership with the Worcester County Cricket Center will be conducting its second annual “Shop with a Cop” on Saturday.
Last year, the barrack took 11 Worcester County students shopping.
This year, the barrack has increased the number of shoppers because of the support of the Berlin WalMart, The National WalMart Foundation, Harbor Marine of West Ocean City, Denovo’s Trattoria Restaurant of Ocean Pines, The Worcester County CRICKET Center, The Worcester County Board of Education and the sworn and civilian members of the Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack, who hope to make the holidays a little brighter for 24 Worcester County students.
Each of the 24 Worcester County students, ranging in age from 5 to 13, will be paired with a trooper who will be giving them tours of the barrack, show and tells with patrol vehicles and meet and greets with state police K-9 units.
The Troopers and their shoppers will then take the state police bus to the Berlin WalMart, where each of the shoppers will be given $100 to spend as they wish as they “Shop with a Cop.”
At the conclusion of shopping, everyone will return to the Berlin Barrack where volunteers will wrap the shoppers new presents and have lunch together.
