Berlin hosts cruisers auto show, ‘Punk Rock Prom’

BERLIN– “Cool” Berlin showed off its impressive range during a pair of events held on Saturday, May 17.
The town hosted the annual Spring Cruisers car show during the day, followed by a ‘Punk Rock Prom’ benefit Saturday evening.
Between 130 and 150 cars participated in Cruisers, from a 1940 Ford Belair to a 1976 Chevy Camaro.
“We were very happy with the turnout,” Joya Mattie, executive director of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce, said of the event. “I think it helped because of the rain the day before. A lot of people were anxious to get back outside, and we were lucky because we had a nice, sunny day.”
Bill Porter won a triple crown of sorts, earning “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice” for his 1940 Buick Lasalle, and winning the 50/50 raffle held during the event.
Victorian Charm co-owner Debbie Frene handed out awards and local comedian Dave “The Fruit Guy” Miller emceed.
Upcoming Berlin Chamber-supported events include Women Supporting Women’s 2nd Annual High Heel Race, held on Friday, June 6. Say I Do in Berlin, previously slated for May, has been rescheduled for Friday, September 26. Fall Cruisers will be held on Saturday, October 11.
The Punk Rock Prom was held at The Pulse on 20 S. Main Street in Berlin. Attendees were invited to “go classy, go punk-y,” or combine the two looks.
Awards were given out for prom king and queen, as well as best dressed.
Ode & the Time Node Trio, Fussy Pink, Tsunami Sunset, Peter Gorgui, Magic Karpet and Youth in Asia performed during the show.
The donation-only cover benefited Mosa Davis, a local resident who lost her home during a fire.
