Berlin Jazz & Blues Bash brings music to downtown

(June 2, 2016) The ninth annual Jazz and Blues Bash will bring live music, artisan merchants, craft beer – and likely thousands of visitors – to downtown Berlin on Saturday, June 4, as it opens what should be another busy season of events in the town.
The Shrapnels, the New York Connection, the Larks and the Chris English Band are scheduled to play the free, outdoor festival, which will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Launched in 2007, Jazz and Blues is the second-largest event staged by the Berlin Chamber of Commerce, behind only the Fiddler’s Convention held each September.
New this year are more attractions aimed at children and their families. These included a moon bounce and arts and crafts activities sponsored by Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services. The chamber will also bring a cotton candy machine to the party.
Along with the roughly dozen restaurants and cafes already in the downtown area, additional food vendors for the event will include the Berlin Lions Club, Eastern Shore Kettle Korn, Rosenfeld’s Jewish Deli and the Waystead Inn.
Burley Oak Brewing Company will debut its new beer truck and will be selling commemorative T-shirts and cups to benefit the Town of Berlin fireworks display scheduled for July 3.
Chamber Administrator Morgan Coulson estimated the event draws about 3,000 people to Berlin each year.
“Last year, unfortunately, it rained, but this year it’s looking like we’ll have amazing weather. It should be a really good day for the merchants as well as the tourists,” she said. “The Jazz and Blues Bash is basically an opportunity to bring as many people into Berlin as possible so they can see why it’s America’s coolest small town, while bringing some well-deserved business to the merchants, and also some exposure for the chamber.
“We want everyone to come and have an amazing time,” she added. “We are really looking forward to this year. This is [Executive Director] Larnet [St. Amant] and my one-year anniversary of joining the chamber and we believe we’ve got everything really dialed now. We want everyone to experience everything Berlin has to offer.”
