Berlin mayoral and council candidates file financials

(Sept. 15, 2016) Financial disclosures from all five candidates who filed to run in the 2016 Town of Berlin municipal election appeared relatively straightforward.
The Gazette requested and received those statements from the town last Wednesday.
Town of Berlin financial disclosure statements include interests in real property held in or outside the town, interests in corporations, interests in a “non-corporate business entity,” gifts related to town business, employment related to town business, debts related to town business, earned income related to a business entity, and immediately family members employed by the town.
The reporting period for incumbents was Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2015. For candidates, that period was Jan. 1 through the filing date.
Incumbent Mayor Gee Williams reported a residential home on Old Ocean City Boulevard, bought jointly with his wife, Betsy Williams, in Oct. 1974 and costing $23,500. He reported his employer as the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore in Salisbury, and his wife’s employer as the Board of Education of Worcester County in Newark.
District 2 Councilwoman Lisa Hall, who vacated her council seat to run for mayor, filed on June 17. She reported a residential home on Ann Drive purchased with her late husband in 1994 and costing $112,000. She also reported her business, Berlin Butcher Shop, LLC, had a $70,000 interest in the property in May when she “started [the] company,” according to the forms.
Zackery Tyndall, who is running for the District 2 council seat, filed on June 14. He reported a residential home on Buckingham Road purchased in Sept. 2010 for $175,000. He also reported one share of stock, 100 percent of ownership, in Khom Properties, L.L.C.
Additional stocks reported by Tyndall included seven shares, less than 1 percent of ownership, of The Mosiac Co., 10 shares, less than 1 percent of ownership, of Calvin B. Taylor Bankshares, nine shares, less than 1 percent of ownership, of Yahoo! Inc., and 100 shares, less than 1 percent of ownership, of Leap From Enterprises Inc.
Tyndall also listed a roommate, Joe Downs, during the reporting period.
Jack Orris Jr., also running for District 2, filed on June 23. He listed an employer, Premier Glass and Screen Inc. from Frankford, Delaware.
Elroy Brittingham, an incumbent in District 3, did not report any interests.
