Berlin added another feather to its cap of outsider compliments when travel platform Trips to Discover named it to its list of most “charming” small towns in every state recently.
“Berlin was named Budget Travel‘s ‘Coolest Small Town in America,’ and we agree that it has loads of appeal,” the article states. “A stroll down Main Street with its historic buildings is worth bringing a camera for and you’ll find some fabulous venues for a cold brew, glass of wine, or a delicious meal. Nearby, the Assateague Island National Seashore offers sandy beaches, coastal bays, forests, and a community of wild ponies.”
It’s a compliment that community leaders growing accustomed to hearing.
“I think it’s our businesses, first and foremost,” said Allison Early, economic and community development assistant administrator. “When people come to the welcome center and ask what to do, I say we have the best shops and restaurants in the area. And it’s not just shopping. Sometimes you go to places to look around. Most of our shops are locally owned and operated, many owned by local artists. Most of them have products that were made here. We have great places to eat. All are phenomenal and it’s really a place that’s more than just going shopping and eating.”
“Visitors come here and feel a part of it on the very first visit. It makes them want to move here. (Economic and Community Development Director Ivy Wells) and I do work hard to advertise and make sure there are no vacancies. We make sure the business owners are happy and we try to help them but really, they are the stars of the show.”
Mayor Zack Tyndall also gave credit to those who put the effort in to make Berlin a desirable destination.
“The Town of Berlin is honored to be referred to as the most charming small town in Maryland. Berlin’s continued success is directly attributed to the friendly and vibrant atmosphere created by everyone that lives, works, and visits our town.”
