Berlin will crown ‘Little Miss, Mr. Peach’ at festival

BERLIN– Fresh on the heels of the Peach Festival, Berlin will crown the 2014 “Little Miss” and “Little Mister” Peach on Friday, Aug. 8.
The 6th annual Berlin Peach Pageant will be held on the porch Atlantic Hotel at 6 p.m. Contestants must be 4-7 years of age and must reside in Worcester County.
Terri Sexton, owner of the Treasure Chest, founded the pageant.
“Something like this was done many years ago, because when we were growing up they had a ‘Little Miss’ and a ‘Miss,’” she said. “So I got together with somebody who had been a previous Little Miss and a Big Miss, and we kind of started the whole thing rolling.”
Organizers advertised the event in area daycares, and a signup table was set up during last weekend’s Berlin Peach Festival.
“All the contestants have to introduce themselves, and then we usually ask them a question that they have to answer,” Sexton said. “Nothing difficult – just very simple and cute.”
Sexton said that roughly a dozen children take part in the pageant each year.
“I just think it’s another thing that involves the community and involves the children of the community,” she said. “It’s something the children will always remember.”
Winners of the Little Miss Berlin Peach and Little Mister Berlin Peach will cut the ribbon during the opening ceremonies of the 2015 Berlin Peach Festival next August. Complete official rules are available in the Berlin Visitor’s Center.
