(July 13, 2017) The Town of Berlin recently upgraded its public access channel, although not so much to great fanfare.
“Nobody noticed,” Town Administrator Laura Allen said. “But we talked about it at a council meeting and we’re very excited about it, because it gives us a lot more capacity – which we’re exploring.”
Allen said the town spent less than $5,000 with the TelVue Corporation to upgrade the systems and improve delivery of public information and community events.
Submitting events and announcements to the channel can be done through a form on the Town of Berlin website by visiting www.berlinmd.gov/public-access-channel-request. Two weeks’ notice is recommended for events.
“We have some policy rules of what goes up there, but with most local events there’s really not an issue,” Allen said. “If folks want local events that they want us to highlight, there’s no charge.”
Allen said the town has put a lot of its own notices on the channel.
“We put everything on it,” she said. “Recently, we put in the fireworks event, the change in the schedule for the holiday for garbage and recycling pick up, and all of our notifications for ‘Tweak Our Peak.’”
The Town of Berlin public access network can be viewed on channel 4 on most TVs, Allen said.
