Charles W. “Charlie” Twilley, 85, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2026, following a long illness, with his beloved wife Nancy Lee at his side.

Born on September 29, 1940, Charlie grew up in Salisbury, where community and education were staples of his family life. He attended Mardela High School, graduating with the class of 1958. The institution was deeply tied to his family; his father, William Edgar Twilley, served as the Principal, and his mother, Virginia Mae Twilley, was a teacher. During his high school years, Charlie was a star athlete, excelling on both the basketball court and the baseball diamond. It was also during this foundational time that he discovered what would become a lifelong passion: the game of golf. After high school, he attended the University of Maryland, where he was a proud member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Fraternity.

Charlie’s professional career was diverse and marked by his ability to connect with people. He began his professional journey behind the lens as a school pictures and studio photographer. Later, he transitioned into sales, working with the Burnett-White Tire Company. He ultimately spent the final twenty years of his professional career working at Mann Properties in Ocean City, Maryland, working alongside his childhood best friend Buck Mann.

Charlie was truly at home on the golf course. A lifelong, avid lover of the sport, he played several days a week. His talent earned him a place in local sports circles and some of his golf trophies still remain proudly on display at the Salisbury Elks Club where he was a member for almost 40 years. He was also a long-standing member of the Greenhill Yacht and Country Club, where he spent many happy hours with lifelong friends pursuing his favorite pastime.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Edgar and Virginia Mae Twilley, as well as his sister, Phyllis Beach of Delmar.

Charlie is survived by his wife Nancy Lee Twilley and his son Curt Twilley; as well as his nephews Barry Beach and Brent Beach, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  He will be missed and remembered with love by his wife and close friends Bill Johnston and Buck Mann.

A celebration of life will be held in the Fall and will be announced at a later date.
