Classic cars to take ‘Cruise’ down Berlin Main Street

(Oct. 8, 2015) Hundreds of classic cars from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s are expected in downtown Berlin during Fall Cruisers this Saturday.
The annual event is an offshoot of Ocean’s City’s Endless Summer Cruisin’, which will be held Oct. 8-11 in the inlet parking lot and the Ocean City convention center.
Organizer Tanya Giles said a strong crowd is expected in Ocean City, where she expects the Boardwalk will be cleared of storm debris in time for the daily car parades.
Meanwhile in Berlin, the event is more low-key, drawing about 200 cars annually.
“It’s much more intimate,” Giles said. “People can walk around and there are a lot of families who come. It’s a nice event because you can get up close and a lot of the drivers will be there to talk to you.”
Registration will begin at 7 a.m., and Giles said slots are generally sold out by 10 a.m.
The cost is $10, and the first 50 registrants receive a commemorative dash plaque.
Awards will be given at 2 p.m. in six different categories, including People’s Choice and Best in Show.
Giles said the car lineup generally dissipates after the ceremony, but the shops and restaurants in Berlin will remain open, generally until 5 p.m. or later.
“We usually have a couple thousand people come throughout the day,” she said. “It’s a free-flowing event and it’s very casual and relaxed. You don’t have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy it, but if you are you should definitely come.”
