Crowded First Friday promised

(Nov. 3, 2016) November’s iteration of the First Friday franchise will be busier than most, with all of Snow Hill’s regular downtown activities such as street vendors, shops open late and light food and drinks at certain venues, along with a grand opening ribbon cutting, open houses, an anniversary, sales and more.
Beginning at 5 p.m., the monthly event begins as a self-directed, self-guided tour of the historic area.
To start, the Snow Hill Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting for the Mirror Salon, which has been in soft-open mode for about two weeks now. The gathering is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. at the salon, located across Snow Hill Road from The Daily Brew Coffeehouse and the former site of the Courtney Brooke Salon.
Nearly every other downtown shop will also be open — including one that hasn’t been in several years. The sites of the former Palette restaurant and the adjacent Palette Pantry will be hosting open houses and allowing tours of the buildings for the first time since they closed a few years ago.
Also, a little farther down Green Street, Ann Coates and Bishop’s Stock will be marking the 13th anniversary of the gallery’s opening. Since opening, Coates has staged 140 shows, and the 141st is local Scot Dolby, who has been showing his work there since its opening in 2003.
Bishop’s Stock doubles as a purveyor of fine wines, and once again Ann and Randy Coates will be filling glasses for a wine tasting until 8 p.m.
Across Green Street and up the block a little at the Green Pearl, artist Paul Volker is unveiling a new series of 10 paintings called “The Heavenly Adventures of a Squeeshy Squirrel.”
Finally, back out on Snow Hill Road, at the foot of the drawbridge, the Pocomoke River Canoe and Kayak company is continuing its end-of-the-season sale with up to half off kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. While the opportunities to get out on the river are becoming fewer and farther between, owner Barry Laws is making way for next year’s inventory by clearing out this years’ models.
