(Oct. 7, 2021) Main Street in Berlin will be shut down on Saturday to display hotrods, muscle cars and vintage vehicles during the semi-annual “Cruisin’ Berlin,” event that takes place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Vehicle registration is $10 and submitted on arrival with Main Street parking reserved for Cruisin’ participants.
The Berlin Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event, which also will feature music, trivia and prizes.
Berlin Chamber Deputy Director Steve Frene said the annual car show returned in full force this May after throttled back back last autumn because of the pandemic.
“It was the first of the events we held on a scaled-back version,” he said.
While last October the gear-head gathering was at half speed, this weekend will rev back up.
“This will be a full-on event,” he said.
On tap to provide musical accompaniment and conduct trivia contest is DJ Papopdoowop.
Frene said the Cruisin’ event last October drew roughly 100 muscle cars.
“In May, we were up to 300 cars and hope for the same this weekend,” he said. “We’re looking for a record attendance.”
Frene said the event gives an opportunity for car enthusiasts to talk shop, while the autumn timeframe provides those less interested in engine chatter a first glance at newly arrived fall fashions at numerous Berlin boutiques and merchants.
“For many people it’s the first weekend of Christmas shopping,” he said.
The fall installment of Cruisin’ Berlin also draws a crowd of out-of-town visitors lured in for one last shindig as summer drifts into memory.
Vehicle registration is available on a first come, first served basis with Cruisers restricted from departing parking spaces until 2 p.m. for safety reasons.
Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m.
