Dance troupe brings ‘Annie’ to Pines Yacht Club

(June 4, 2015) The Point Dance Theatre will present the popular musical “Annie” at the Ocean Pines Yacht Club on Friday.
A buffet dinner will begin prior to the event, at 5:30 p.m., with the performance starting at 7 p.m.
Shelly Olafsson, who has 10-year-old twin daughters in the show, has been assisting with promotion of the event.
“The company was started by a local woman … who actually danced for the Atlanta Ballet Company,” she said. “I think it’s a great little dance company.”
Started in 2006, the company focuses on youth ages 4-13.
Olafsson said her daughters, Jenna and Olivia, have been working on the performance since January. Jenna will play Duffy, an orphan, and Olivia is a company dancer in the production.
“They have been practicing this since the first of the year, right after we did a ‘Nutcracker’ performance in December,” she said. “They put in, probably, six hours a weekend practicing.”
The show will combine elements of dance with the traditional singing and speaking parts with which fans of the musical are familiar.
Olafsson hopes “Annie” will bring more attention to the company and what it hopes to achieve.
“We just want to see more people in the community becoming involved,” Olafsson said. “This is also an opportunity for all children to get out there and be able to act, dance, what have you.”
The event is open to the public, and reservations are recommended. Adult tickets, which include dinner, are $30. Tickets for Children under 12 are $20.
The company will present additional performances at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School on 11242 Racetrack Road in Berlin on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children under 12.
