Dusty Lamb opens in new location

By Morgan Pilz, Staff Writer

(March 5, 2020) The Dusty Lamb owner, Berlin native and artist Patty Backer, who has displayed her work throughout the Berlin area for many years, has reopened for business on 3 South Main Street as of Saturday, Feb. 29.

Originally opening in March of 2019 on Williams Street, Backer moved from the roughly 300 square foot location to its current 1,000 square foot space.

“It was great but it was just too small,” Backer said. “My art studio at the old spot was tiny. So, this location gave me more space mainly for that and then more showroom space as well. “It’s really nice to see people and also it’s easier for people to access everything.”

Originally, Backer sold her artwork from her own home, but decided to open a store because it felt “too reclusive.”

Backer’s store is a showcase for her quirky and whimsical paintings and repainted furniture, as well as small gift items of the same manner ranging from coffee mugs, animal pens, keychains, scarves and several recyclable bags. She also has a few items for sale created by other local artists.

“It’s odd art,” she said. “It’s really fun stuff.’

The store officially opened on Saturday, and according to Backer, there was a mix of regular customers and new ones curious about the store.

“Both regular customers and people who just happened upon us and were wandering around Berlin have come in already,” Backer said.

Now that she has the space to create more art and put it on display, Backer plans to include sewing materials, something she typically did at home.

The store will be open daily from noon to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Saturdays, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. The store will be closed on Tuesdays.
