Fall Fest in Pocomoke extra Halloween, Sat.

(Oct. 6, 2016) Following in the footsteps of the Fourth Friday events that sustained downtown foot traffic through spring and summer, Pocomoke’s Fall Fest this Saturday will use a similar format but on a grander scale.
“It’s the town’s most well-attended event,” Karah Lacey, downtown coordinator, said. “And it’s my favorite time of year — I just love everything about fall in general.”
The festival takes place downtown, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., but in an expanded fashion. The rain date is next Saturday, Oct. 15 at the same time.
“We use the entire downtown area,” Lacey said. By way of comparison, Fourth Friday was usually involved a block or two of downtown Pocomoke City.
For those with kids, there are two highlights. The first is early bird trick-or-treating at the downtown shops. Also a part of that event is a “Passport to Pocomoke” game, in which participants collect stamps at each downtown shop. Completed passports can be exchanged for a free ticket to a Mar-Va theater show, Lacey said.
Blank passports are available at Enchanted Florist downtown.
The second event aimed at children is a costume contest scheduled to take place at 2:30 p.m. with judging immediately afterwards. Registration hours are between 11 a.m. to  2 p.m.
Fur babies also have their own event — a puppy costume parade scheduled for noon.
Registration for the event begins at 10:30 a.m. at Salty Dog Grooming at 21 Clarke Ave., owner Justine O’Neal said.
Participation is free, and every dog registered gets a $10 coupon for grooming. Two prizes will be awarded, one for the best costume and a grand prize. The prizes, O’Neal said, are baskets “loaded with doggy stuff.”
Most events and entertainment during the festival is free, Lacey said, with a few exceptions. Food, such as hamburgers, hot dogs as well as funnel cake fries and fried Oreos, will cost extra. Also, a fee will be charged for pony rides and river tours.
Several forms of live entertainment are scheduled, including traditional bands, but also demonstrations by the Pocomoke Middle School choir, a performance by the cast of the Mar-Va theater’s upcoming “Dracula” show, Feet of Fire dance studio and several others.
Just like Fourth Friday, the town’s museums will also offer free admission.
Rounding out the events are a classic automobile show, kids’ face painting and tattoos plus a slate of sidewalk vendors.
“It’s a downtown event and it’s sponsored by the downtown association, but it’s spread through the whole area,” Lacey said.
