Fun for all ages during Spring Festival, Sat.

(April 6, 2017) The Fourth annual Spring Festival in Pocomoke this Saturday has a little something for everybody.
The festival, which is hosted by the Downtown Pocomoke Association, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to the public.
Karah Lacey, Pocomoke economic development coordinator, said Market Street between Front Street and Second Street would be blocked off for the occasion.
“[It’s] one of the only events you can go to and bring your family for free,” she said.
Although crowds will be concentrated on Market Street, Lacey said the fun is not limited to that locale.
“It’s kind of like a big block party but throughout downtown,” she said.
Bring the little ones out to make crafts, create sidewalk chalk art, and even grab a ride on a horse or pony. There will also be face-painting and temporary tattoos available to add to the festive spirit.
Lacey said local museums, such as the Delmarva Discovery Center and the Sturgis One Room School, will offer free admission during the festival. She said an adult must accompany children.
Children can also take part in the “Hooked on Fishing” program, which allows youngsters the opportunity to fish off the docks and try their hand at reeling in a fresh catch from the Pocomoke River. The program will take place from 1-3 p.m. Equipment and supplies are included.
Attendees of all ages can check out live music from Neal Hooks, Keily Wolff and Pockets Full of Sand. There will also be live performances courtesy of the Mar-Va Theater Performing Arts Center, the Dance Loft, and Pocomoke Karate & Judo.
The Eastern Shore Cruisers Car Club will treat automotive enthusiasts to a car and truck show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Downtown Pocomoke Farmers & Flea Market parking lot on Market Street. The cost to register a vehicle is $10 for cruiser club members and $15 for nonmembers. Registration will be held on Saturday morning with free dash plaques for the first 50 entries along with multiple show trophies.
Not to overlook four-legged family members, Salty Dog Grooming will host an onstage Puppy Parade at noon with awards for “Best in Show” without a costume, in addition to “Best Costume.”
Despite the name, the Puppy Parade is open to canines of all ages at no cost. All participants will receive a $10 coupon from Salty Dog Grooming. To pre-register for the parade, call Salty Dog at 410-957-6467. Day-of registration begins at 11 a.m.
Lacey said there is one other favorite event parents can experience with their children.
“One big thing we like to do is the Passport to Pocomoke game,” she said.
To participate, children can pick up a passport at the Enchanted Florist. The game encourages little ones to travel to numerous businesses downtown where they acquire stamps in their passport. At each stop children get a treat and can turn in completed passports for a free movie ticket at the Mar-Va Theater on the day of their choice.
Lacey said the spring festival was partially inspired by the Pocomoke Pear Tree Festival, which faded out about 20 years ago.
“I remember going when I was a kid,” she said. “We’re trying to bring that tradition back, but in a new, current way.”
She also noted that Mother Nature is being asked to cooperate.
“There is no rain date, so we are hoping for good weather,” she said.
Although most activities are free, Lacey said there would be food and beverages available for purchase.
She encouraged festivalgoers to try out the wide variety of entertainment options.
“Just come see what Pocomoke has to offer,” she said.
