BERLIN — Irma Townsend Pruitt, age 83, died Tuesday, June 28 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Whaleyville, she was the daughter of the late William Townsend and Ruth D. Townsend. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, George O. “Tut” Pruitt in 1994 and her son, Tucker C. Pruitt in 1978.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas W. Pruitt and his wife, Cydney of Berlin, Teddy J. Pruitt and his wife, Theresa, of West Fenwick, Del. and Terry O. Pruitt and his beloved companion, Dawn Bruning, of Salisbury; there are four grandchildren, Travis, Tyler, Carter and Joey Pruitt; sisters, Mary Dinges and her husband, Lester, Louise Butcher and her husband, Robert, of Jupiter, Fla. and Edna Rickards and her husband Charles of Delmar, Del.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Townsend and sisters, Hazel Evans and Lilly Hudson. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Robbie Townsend of Pittsville; a special devoted niece, Ginger Rickards and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pruitt had been employed as a cafeteria worker for many years with the Worcester County Board of Education and for the Ocean City Golf and Yacht Club. She had also owned and operated Pruitts Produce. She had been an active Little League Mom for many years and was a member of Buckingham Presbyterian Church in Berlin.
A graveside service was held Friday, at Sunset Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1138 Parsons Rd., Salisbury, MD.
