BERLIN — Jackie “Jack” V. Wood, age 81, died July 26 at Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury. Born in Neosho, Mo., he was the son of the late Walter Meek Wood and Frankie McCleary Wood.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice “Bea” Wood in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Hilda “Kelly” Downs Wood, and sons, Bruce Wood and his wife Cindy of Newark, and Kenneth Wood of Snow Hill, stepsons, Matt Powell and his wife Norma of Liberty, Tx. and Mark Powell of Libertytown.
He leaves two granddaughters, Kristen Wood and Andrea Fletcher, two step grandsons, Trevor and Ryan, four great-grandchildren; Peyton, Kiersten, Taylor, and Alyssa Fletcher, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by a brother, Rev. Walter “Dow” Wood and his wife Mary of Eden, and a sister Barbara Jameson and her husband Jack of Calhoun, Ark., sister-in-law, Shirley Wood of Yokum, Tx. and a brother-in-law, Russell Bradford and his wife Sally of Ocean City. He was preceded in death by a brother Joseph “Joe” Wood in 2004.
Jack was the owner and operator of Ocean City Texaco for over 28 years. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church , lifetime member of the Ocean City Fire Department, Eastern Shore Region Antique Automobile Club of America, Korean conflict Army Veteran, and Sinepuxtant American Legion Post # 166 for over 50 years. Jack was also an avid fisherman.
