Joanne Selby Jewell age 80, of Berlin, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Albert F. Johnson and Anna Mae (Selby) Johnson. She was the wife of Stephen Jewell. They are not long the days of wine and roses.

In 1955 Joanne and her family lived in Palo Alto, California. Joanne’s only wish was to have a baby sister, just like her best friend had. The day I was born her wish came true!

Then the family moved to Fort Ashby, West Virginia where Joanne discovered sock hops and dances at the fire station.

Then the family moved to Greenbelt, Maryland where Joanne discovered Steve… they got married and in the years to follow raised four boys. Steve retired from Giant Foods and they both moved to Ocean City to live with our mom and take care of her as she got older.

My brother quoted a line from a book… “A little boy looks up at his grandfather and says… It must have been a long time since YOU were a baby… And the grandfather says “It was only yesterday…”

In addition to her husband Joanne is survived by her sons, David Jewell (Gracious), Michael Jewell, Douglas Jewell (Tina) and, Robert Jewell (Charlene), brother, John Johnson (Mary), sister, Mary Carol Johnson-Willis (Forrest), grandchildren Jeffery, Christopher, Stephen, Jesse, Sable, Nicolette,, Wayde, Caitlin and Ian, great-grandchildren Avaleigh, Olivia, Blake, Paisley, Kash and Walker.

Cremation followed Joanne’s passing. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of The Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin, Maryland. Condolences may be shared with the family via www.burbagefuneralhome.com.
