Leslie Joan Freeman (née Stewart), 85, of Ocean City, died peacefully at home Oct. 5.

Born in Washington, D.C., she spent much of her life in Chantilly, Va., before moving to Ocean City. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edward “Ed” Freeman, and her parents, James and Margaret Stewart.

Survivors include her daughters, Valerie Short and her husband, Edgar Short Jr., of Selbyville, DE., and Kathryn Simon of Wake Forest, NC, granddaughter Casey Simon and Casey’s partner, Marc Atkins, of Charlotte, NC, and best friend Johanna Devon of Haymarket, Va., along with numerous cherished friends and family

A graveside service and celebration of life will be held at 12 p.m. Nov. 5 at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering from 1 to 4 p.m. at 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to a local animal rescue organization.
