Lunchtime concert series coming

(March 30, 2017) This May in Berlin will mark the debut of the “3rd Thursday” lunchtime concert series, a new grouping of musical performances designed to draw shoppers to the downtown area.
Berlin Economic and Community Development Director Ivy Wells said the monthly event would be held in the grassy area near the Go Organic Grocer and House by Salvaged shops on Artisan’s Way, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“The Lunchtime Concert Series is something I have wanted for the last two years,” Wells said, adding that finding a location was the biggest obstacle to staging the event. “I’ve been meeting with Garrett Need, who owns that property. He said it was a great idea, so I’m running with it.”
The Bilenki Duo will play on May 18, followed by Rob Fahey on May 15, Darin Engh from Opposite Directions on July 20, and The Country Grass on Aug. 17.
Wells said restaurants in Berlin would offer carryout specials to coincide with the series, which will be free and open to the public.
“You can get your lunch and take it over there,” she said. “We’ll have picnic tables and some hula hoops, and try to get people to come outside and enjoy lunch and downtown Berlin.”
She said the series would be advertised in professional centers in and around Berlin, including Atlantic General Hospital.
“There’s a lot of businesses and a lot of people that work in Berlin that don’t really know what’s going on downtown,” she said. “We’re trying to encourage people to just come outside and have a good time during lunch. Plus, it’s exposure to the shops and restaurants.”
