New and easier to navigate OPA Web site launched

OCEAN PINES—The Yacht Club isn’t the only Ocean Pines fixture getting a redo these days. If you haven’t perused it already, the new Web site, www.oceanpines.org, is worth a tour.
Marketing and Public Relations Director Teresa Travatello said the new Web site has been under development since March and was rolled in with an e-blast announcement. The new design is intended make the site easier to navigate when seeking amenities and activities functions and more user-friendly when searching for documents and information.
While Travatello said she was “very, very excited” about the launch of the new website, she indicated it is still in a beta test mode of sorts. “No way could I do all this alone,” she said.
She invited users to provide feedback and input if they spot spelling or displays that might need tweaking or items that might need to be included, as the site continues to grow and more refinements are made.
From the new website, OPA’s meetings can be viewed in real-time from a live stream video, or on-demand from archived video, Travatello said. Accessing the video platforms is made more user-friendly on the new website, she said.
What is noticeable from touring the new site is that a lot of the stovepipe-type functions that made finding specific items difficult in the past, if the department or function associated with them was unknown, have been resolved with the addition of a “search” function on the new site.
The homepage has automatic drop-down lists that make scrolling through to find a department or activity easier. The lists range from general information under the “About Ocean  Pines” icon to the fun-related icons “Amenities” and “Recreation,” and includes information sites “OPA News,” “Administration” and “Projects.” It even includes an icon for frequently asked questions, and posts the most recent OPA press releases.
Travatello said additional functions are being considered for the website over time and some of those platform ideas might be proposed as part of the 2014-2015 budget. For example, the new functions might include a secure login protected section where members can register for classes or golf outings, update their membership profiles or pay their assessments. Ultimately, it could give members the options to perform functions online that now must be done on paper.
The website calendar is still a work in progress as Travatello continues to organize it into the most useful way to capture all the work, fun and play activities going on in “The Pines.”
