(Aug. 4, 2016) General Manager Bob Thompson received an $8,600 merits-based bonus during a closed-door session last Thursday in Ocean Pines.
After about an hour of deliberation, the board emerged and announced the 4-3 vote to approve the bonus. By comparison, Thompson received a $5,000 bonus last year and $12,000 in 2014.
“We discussed it and we voted on it, and we came up with a number,” OPA Board President Pat Renaud said on Thursday. “We didn’t always agree with everything, but we did come up with something. He did get a good, sizeable bonus.”
Renaud said the bonus was based on “nonfinancial goals.”
“He had 10 goals to reach and we graded him on each one of them,” he said. “I think it was fair process. We all came out pretty close together – the ones who voted.”
He added that he believed Thompson performed slightly better during the most-recent fiscal period than during the one proceeding it, hence the slightly higher bonus.
“I think he did a better job,” Renaud said. “I think we’ll see it reflected on the financial side too, but I don’t know that just yet.”
