OCEAN PINES– Cars from classics to contemporary customs will ride through the community on Saturday, Aug. 23.
The 2nd annual Ocean Pines Car Show begins with a parade from White Horse Park to Veteran’s Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Cars will set up at Veteran’s Memorial Park until 2 p.m.
“The show originated last year for the 45th anniversary of Ocean Pines and we decided to continue it this year,” said Amber Fraser, member coordinator at the Ocean Pines Area Chamber of Commerce. “They had a really successful show last year.”
Sixty-seven cars participated in the show last year. Fraser expects those numbers to be slightly up in 2014.
“We’re doing the same marketing that we did last year, and we might even have more this year because more have signed up before the event than did last year,” she said.
Judging begins following the parade in categories including Classic, Antique, Modern, Custom, Street Rod and People’s Choice.
New this year, the Chamber will sponsor a children’s bicycle parade around the pond.
“That’s something we added this year to make it more of a family friendly event,” said Fraser. “The bicycle parade will start at noon, and the children are going to go around the pond and show off their bikes. They can decorate them or they can wear costumes, and we’re going to have prizes.”
There is no registration fee for children, although the Chamber is asking participants to donate school supplies to Worcester County Gold’s school supplies drive.
Registration for the car show runs from 9-10 a.m. Advance registration is $12 and day-of registration is $15.
Food vendors including Eastern Shore Kettle Corn will be on site, and radio station The Wave 97.1 will broadcast remotely during the event.
“The Ocean Pines Chamber is trying to do as many business-to-community and community-to-community events as possible to get our community involved,” Fraser said. “We have a lot of vendors from our membership that are going to be there for our community to get information from or freebies from at their tables.
“Everybody is welcome,” Fraser continued. “If you have a car you’re welcome, if you just like to eat you’re welcome, if you have children, grandchildren – anybody. It’s an event for the entire community.”
