Patty Jean’s Boutique opens up in new spot

(May 25, 2017) Almost a year after she opened Patty Jean’s Boutique on 116 Broad Street in Berlin, owner Megan Cosman opened her new location on 110 North Main Street, last week.
The storefront window did not go up until early this week, but Cosman was excited about the move to a busier section of downtown, inside the former home of World of Toys.
Cosman wanted to be open during May Day Play Day and Berlin Cruisers, Friday and Saturday. She said a grand opening was likely during the first or second weekend of June.
“It’s really nice to be up here and see where all the action is. It’s definitely a stepping stone from the old store,” she said.
Her husband, Michael Cosman, and several friends helped during the move. She’s thrilled with the results and the surprising amount of space in the building, she said.
The transfer took about three weeks.
“It was quite a bit of work, but it was fun,” she said. “It’s fun to be creative again in putting the space together. Everyone that’s come in has been totally shocked – and so am I! I’m so excited with how big it seems.”
Along with offering contemporary women’s clothing, Cosman said she would also introduce a line for girls’ ages 7-15 that features “surfer brands” like O’Neill.
“There’s nothing in town that really sells anything for them, so that’s pretty exciting,” she said.
She has also worked with Harrington Graphics & Screenprinting to sell an original line of graphic T-shirts, and the boutique features additional home and bath items such as candles, bath balms and accessories.
The revamped interior includes some furnishings from House by Salvaged, which recently opened on nearby Artisans Way in Berlin.
Sonny Nguyen, who bought the building and plans to open Main Street Nails in the adjacent space, is handling the exterior. He will continue renovations of the front façade, Cosman said, working in phases.
“They’re replacing all the windows and just kind of sprucing up the building, which I think is awesome,” she said. “To be a part of that is pretty cool.”
A second location, somewhere down the road, is a long-term goal.
“In St. Martin, in the islands,” Cosman said with a laugh.
