Pines anniversary committee mulls plates, concerts

(Aug. 24, 2017) The Ocean Pines Association 50th Anniversary Committee discussed plans for commemorative license plates and a major concert event during its meeting on Monday.
The license plates would use the 50th anniversary logo designed by Lisa Perez, according to Chairwoman Jennifer Cropper-Rines. She said the design is being submitted to the Motor Vehicle Administration for approval, which typically takes 45 days.
“I think it’ll be nice,” she said. “Particularly from my perspective, as a real estate agent, it would be very nice to have my community be on my plate. And for people who live here, I think it would be a really nice token.”
Cropper-Rines said plans for the concert are in the early stages, but the idea is to hire a well-known, national act to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the community, next year.
“We want somebody who would be a big draw. What we have to figure is parking and whether we have to go to a different location,” she said, adding the Freeman Stage at Bayside and the Ocean City Performing Arts Center were mentioned as possibilities. “We want something bigger than a local band.”
Ocean Pines Food and Beverage Manager Brian Townsend attended the meeting to answer questions about some of the planned events, including a winter ball and golf tournament. Marketing Coordinator Julie Malinowski and a representative from the Ocean Pines Pine’eer Craft Club were also present.
The committee also discussed plans for sponsorships, historical displays and a celebration during a Shorebirds game, and Carol Ludwig was tapped to chair the parade committee and Sharyn O’Hare was named winter ball chairwoman.
The next committee meeting is Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. in the administration building on 239 Ocean Parkway.
