OCEAN PINES–The Ocean Pines Farmers Market will continue to operate year round.
Although it was originally expected to close at the end of August and then at the end of October, it will remain open, said David Bean, who will be the new market manager. The change is being made because of the “growth and success of the market,” he said.
Bean had been manning a table at the market selling produce from The Good Farm, a cooperative endeavor at Mariner’s Country Down near Berlin. He will continue selling The Good Farm’s produce, but the stand will be known as D.J. David & Company and his stock will include local honey, pickles, granola, jams, jellies and baked goods.
Other vendors at the market are expected to include Berlin area Dale Hastings who sells a wide variety of fresh produce, Chesapeake Bay Farms, Grateful Grains, Baywater Greens, Sovereign Soil Farms, Good Life Farms and Ami Reist, known as Little Miss Lovely, who will join the farmers market on a weekly basis to sell her fresh greenery and floral decorations.
Farmers Markets support family-based farming, farmers and food producers of the Eastern Shore. Cutting out the middleman allows for direct contact between customers and producers.
The Ocean Pines Farmers Market is open in White Horse Park near the administration building on Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon.
