Pocomoke’s next concert targets younger crowd

(Aug. 11, 2016) The next entry in Pocomoke City’s ongoing summer concert series is one for the younger set, as Brittany Lewis pays tribute to Adele this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Cypress Park.
Taking on the highly decorated singer/songwriter is a daunting task, Lewis said, but one she’s been preparing for over the course of months.
“I’ve been preparing for this since early April,” Lewis said. “But when I sing, I don’t get nervous.”
Lewis, 24, said she began singing as a small child, and has been performing during large public events for the past few years. She sang opera at the Mar-Va Theater and was the jazz band vocalist at UMES. She’s been the choir director at Salem United Methodist Church since 2012, she said, and the choir director at Holly Grove Christian School, both in her native Pocomoke.
In addition, she gives private voice lessons.
Younger people are more familiar with Adele songs, Lewis explained, which made the choice of performers to emulate easy.
The set list will be composed of both familiar Adele songs and compositions from the artist’s most recent release, 25.
“I’m not from Britain, so I don’t have the accent,” she said, but other than that, she promises the differences will be slight.
Accompanying Lewis will be backup vocalists Molly LeMay, Keily Wolff and Justin Harmon. Clive Stampp II will play piano, and some songs will use the backing tracks from Adele’s album.
Like the other concerts in the series, this one is also free admission. Bleacher seats, picnic tables and pavilions are available and picnic baskets are welcome, economic development coordinator Karah Lacey said.
Food will also be available for purchase, including hot dogs, snacks, baked goods and beverages. Sales will benefit Samaritan Shelter.
In the event of rain, the concert will be rescheduled for Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
