Snow Hill presents flooded First Fri.

(Oct. 6, 2016) This month’s First Friday event is shaping up to be a south county affair, with portions of Route 12 closed, Route 113 highway construction and potential weather problems joining to restrict the traffic flow into town from points north.
As of Wednesday morning, the event is proceeding as planned, as Hurricane Matthew isn’t expected to affect Snow Hill until Saturday afternoon or later if it does at all.
The Lower Shore Land Trust, which opened an office on River Street near the drawbridge at the end of July, will be hosting a ribbon cutting event that evening at 6 p.m., as well as honoring the organization’s volunteers for their service. Music by the Von Restos is scheduled to begin shortly after the ribbon cutting.
The Sassy Girl Boutique will be celebrating its 13th anniversary during the event and will serve light refreshments and award door prizes and offer specials beginning at 5 p.m.
Down the block at Bishop’s Stock, the featured artists are mother-daughter duo Martha Graham and Louise Dusinberre, who work in oils and pastels respectively. Owner Ann Coates said the gallery will be offering samplings of wines from Portugal.
Just two doors down from Bishop’s Stock is the Harvest Moon Tavern, which will have happy hour from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Opposite Directions takes the stage at 7 p.m. Reservations are strongly encouraged by the tavern if visitors are planning a meal there.
On the opposite end of downtown, the Blue Dog Café will feature Todd Crosby and the WWTunes.
Downtown merchants are scheduled to stay open until 8 p.m. or later to allow and encourage exploration, and most will be offering some sort of special or sale related to the event.
