Spring Cruisers bring cars, crowds to downtown Berlin

(May 19, 2016) The Spring Cruisers event returns to Berlin this weekend, with hundreds of cars and trucks expected to descend upon the downtown area on Saturday.
Autos generally arrive as early as 7 a.m. to sign up and stake out a prime location. Registration will run until 10 a.m. and costs $10, payable to the Berlin Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event each year.
Several hundred spectators are expected to come to Berlin to see the variety of vehicles – mostly classics – between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The awards ceremony will take place at 2 p.m., with trophies being given for best classic, best antique, best muscle car, best hot rod, best rat rod, best truck, best in show and people’s choice. Many of the cars and trucks clear out immediately afterward.
Spring Cruisers is a scaled down sister event of OC Cruisin’, and serves as a more intimate alternative as well as an annual boost to the bottom line of Berlin merchants.
“I always like to emphasize that, with the street of Berlin being closed, the stores are still open,” event chairwoman Tanja Giles said. “It’s such a nice day to see the cars up close and talk to their owners, but also spend time in Berlin.”
If the weather cooperates, Giles said she expects more than 200 cars to compete for awards.
“We appreciate the town of Berlin for allowing us to have this event,” she said.
