BERLIN — Downtown Berlin’s newest restaurant, Tex Mex & Beyond
on North Main Street, will celebrate its grand opening this weekend,
starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.
Owned by Berlin businessman
Ernest Gerardi, the restaurant will feature authentic Mexican
southwestern foods inspired by chef Arturo Paz’s Latin-American
heritage.
“The ‘Beyond’ part describes any creative cuisine that compliments the food,” Paz said.
A
chef for 22 years, Paz designed menus for many reputable restaurants
throughout the country, including some that are popular dining spots
among Hollywood celebrities — the Republic Restaurant & Lounge in
West Hollywood, Calif., Karu & Y in Miami and Phillips Seafood in
both Baltimore and Atlantic City, N.J.
Locally, Paz helped create
menus for Evolution Craft Brewing Company’s restaurants, Public House
and Sobo’s Wine Beerstro in Salisbury, and the recently opened OC
Steamers in Ocean City, among others.
Using skills learned as an architect, Paz combines structure and colors to creativity design each plate.
Despite having a part in the opening of five restaurants in two years, Paz says his focus is now on Tex Mex & Beyond.
“Hopefully, this is now my home base,” he said.
This
weekend, the restaurant will only be open for dinner, 5-10 p.m., on
Saturday and Sunday. Starting Monday, Tex Mex & Beyond will be open
for lunch and dinner daily, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“We like the forward movement here in Berlin and we’re excited to open up,” Paz said.
