(Aug. 8, 2019) Three people were taken to the hospital following a crash involving multiple cars Monday afternoon on Route 50, according to the Berlin Police Department.

Lt. Robert Fisher said a 75-year-old woman driving a Honda Civic was believed to have had a syncopal episode, “which caused her to fall asleep” at the wheel, and hit two vehicles, a Nissan Rogue and a Toyota Camry.

Fisher said the woman was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, and two others involved in the crash were taken to Atlantic General Hospital, although the severity of their injuries was unclear.

Police went to the scene of the three-vehicle wreck around 2:24 p.m. at the intersection of Route 50 and Seahawk Road in Berlin. The right turn lane was shut down for about 30 minutes, according to Fisher, who added traffic was moving slowly on the left hand side.

No charges have been filed in relation to the incident.
