BERLIN — Walter H. Douthit, age 81, died on Tuesday, March 13 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in Nebraska he was the son of the late Walter Douthit and Agnes Christianson Douthit. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Douthit.
Douthit was a United States Air Force Veteran. He had worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the Oil Industry for many years.
Douthit will be remembered by his friends and family for his gregarious personality, hearty laugh and his infinite kindness. He gave of himself selflessly and without fanfare and could always be depended upon to be supportive. He was an excellent mentor to his children, step-children and grandchildren, a great friend, an avid golfer, skilled bridge player and a gentle partner.
He is survived by two sons, Chris Douthit and his wife Charlotte and Matthew Douthit and his wife Cathy; a daughter, Heather Sneeringer and her husband John; four step-daughters, Dinny Blake, Carol Blake, Linda Tyler and her husband Gerry and Laura Calley and her husband Gordon; four brothers, Lou Thayer, John Douthit and his wife Alice, Jim Douthit and his wife Margaret, Bruce Douthit and his wife Lili; two sisters, Clarice Elliott and Margaret Graham and her husband Gary; his former wife Marisol Dickson and her husband Howard; four grandchildren, Levi, Mike, Ryan and Brendan Douthit; and many nieces, nephews, grand children, great grandchildren and a host of friends.
