BERLIN–Thirty five artists from five states and the District of Columbia painted last weekend in America’s Coolest Small Town and competed for cash prizes in the Worcester County Arts Council’s annual plein air event.
A large audience enjoyed the exhibit during the “Wet Paint” sale and reception and voted for the “People’s Choice” $100 award, which was given to Lois Engberg for her oil painting, “Sunlit Baskets.”
Completed artwork in this competition was judged by Ann Coates, director of Snow Hill Arts and Entertainment District and owner of Bishop’s Stock Fine Art & Fine Craft in Snow Hill.
First place and a $1,000 prize went to Alison Menke from Washington D.C. for her oil painting titled “The Town of Berlin.”
Second place and $500 was awarded to Engberg, of Salisbury, for “Sunlit Baskets,” and third prize of $250 went to William Andrew of Dover, Pa. for his watercolor painting, “Ingrained Migration.”
Honorable mention $100 award was given to Bethesda resident, Ann Schafer for “Almost Ready to Open” oil painting.
Large selection of paintings created during Paint Berlin will remain on display at the Worcester County Arts Council’s Gallery until the end of October. All artwork on the exhibit is available for sale.
The Worcester County Arts Council is grateful for the support of its sponsors: the Town of Berlin, Jolly Roger’s Amusement Parks and many volunteers who contributed to the success of this event.
