Worcester Youth & Family will recognize volunteers

(Sept. 8, 2016) Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services, Inc. (WYFCS) will recognize community volunteers who have devoted significant time and resources to the organization during its annual celebration, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12.
The celebration is being hosted by Jim and Annemarie Dickerson at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort’s new Shipwreck Cove, located at 12806 Ocean Gateway, in West Ocean City. The event is open to the public and will take place from 5:30-8 p.m.
“This celebration recognizes the importance of volunteers and their ongoing efforts to make this community a better place to live,” said Steven Taylor, WYFCS executive director. “The organization has always relied on community support from our neighbors and friends which is how we’ve been able to grow our services and reputation.”
Last year, WYFCS served thousands of people in Worcester County by helping impoverished families find needed financial support and resources through the Family Connections program; serving at risk adolescent girls and boys through the SAGES and SABERS programs; offering cultural, educational and wellness experiences to local children through the Berlin Youth Club; providing comprehensive counseling and mental health therapy services; and advocating for neglected and abused children through the CASA program.
WYFCS programs are funded by United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore, the towns of Berlin, Ocean City and Pocomoke, Worcester County Commissioners, Worcester County’s Initiative to Preserve Families, Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, Administrative Office of the Courts, Governor’s Office for Children, and numerous local businesses and generous individual donors.
The event is open to the public and is free to attend. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided by local restaurants, and a cash bar will be available. For food and beverage planning purposes, RSVP by contacting the office at shine@gowoyo.org or call 410-641-4598.
