WYFCS celebrates 40th anniversary with event, Sunday

(Oct. 29, 2015) Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services, Inc. (WYFCS) will celebrate 40 years of serving the community at its annual celebration, rescheduled for Sunday, Nov. 1.
The celebration is being hosted by Jim and Annemarie Dickerson at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort, at 12806 Ocean Gateway in West Ocean City. The event is open to the public and will take place from 4-7 p.m.
Health care partners, Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PMRC), Atlantic General Hospital (AGH) and many others will be in attendance. All organizations present will be celebrating the expansion of critical mental health services on the Eastern Shore.
“This celebration is recognizing not only the work of our tremendous staff and volunteers over the years, but also our valued community partners,” said Executive Director Steven Taylor. “It has always been a team effort and I think that’s why we have been able to not only sustain but grow our services and reputation.”
Last year, WYFCS served thousands of people in Worcester County by helping impoverished families find needed financial support and resources through the Family Connections program; serving at risk adolescent girls and boys through the SAGES and SABERS programs; offering cultural, educational, and wellness experiences to local children through the Berlin Youth Club; providing comprehensive counseling and mental health therapy services; and advocating for neglected and abused children through the Lower Shore CASA program.
WYFCS programs are funded by United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore, the towns of Berlin, Ocean City, and Pocomoke, Worcester County Commissioners, Worcester County’s Initiative to Preserve Families, Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, Administrative Office of the Courts, Governor’s Office for Children, and numerous local businesses and generous individual donors.
The event is open to the public and is free of charge. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided by local restaurants, including The Shark/Culture, Route 50 Diner, Sunset Grille, Crab Alley/Bull on the Beach, Difebo’s Restaurant, and Dunkin Donuts. A cash bar will be available. Any questions can be directed to the WYFCS office at 410-641-4598.
