(July 11, 2019) Children in Berlin will have the opportunity to engage in some friendly competition during the first Fit Fun Field Day on Friday at Dr. William Henry Park in Berlin.
The event, to be staged by Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the field at the park on Flower Street in Berlin.
Tiffany Scott, youth program coordinator at Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services, said players would participate in several contests, including an egg-and-spoon race, jump rope and tug of war.
Before the events begin, InfiniteWellCo will offer a warm-up for the children as well as “wellness and stress transformation techniques,” Scott said.
Of the field day, Scott said it’s about “getting the kids out the house, and … outdoors and just being together,” she said.
Scott invited members of the Town Council, parks committee and police department to attend. Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services is working with Homes at Berlin, which will provide hamburgers and hotdogs.
Scott also said she’s prepared to combat the summer heat by providing a water station for field day participants. As of Tuesday morning, a high temperature of 89 degrees, with a 40 percent chance of morning thunderstorms is reported for Friday, according to weather.com.
Scott said the event is open to the public, and while she doesn’t know what kind of turnout to expect, she believes the event will grow in the years ahead.
“I’m just hoping to bring the community together,” she said.
Sometimes fostering community bonds can be as simple as playing a game, she said.
“The best way I feel to do that is when you’re having fun,” she said.
